foot update!

Here’s the quick version:
My dr’s office called Mon to say x-rays were clear. I complained about not being able to get a bone scan until July. They said “That’s ridiculous, we’ll call you back.” I was also all huffy about getting a treatment plan and asked for a referral to a sports medicine specialist, they said “Wait until we hear about the bone scan.” They called back within 20mins to tell me that the bone scan was delayed because of the isotope shortage. They wrote the referral for sport medicine guy that is associated with my dr’s office group – a doctor I’ve seen before and really like, Dr. Hall. I kind of expected all of this so that’s fine. ( I asked about seeing Dr. Duke but they’d already booked me with Dr. Hall since their booking systems are linked and I’ve got previous history w/ Dr. Hall. Thank you for the reference and I’ll pass along your good experience if I hear of other’s looking for a SM specialist)

Wednesday I get a call from St. Mary’s Hospital. “Um, we’re trying to get people in for scans before the isotope shortage gets really bad, are you available tomorrow morning at 7:45?” “You bet I am!” So bone scan (a bit of a debacle) yesterday. Results in the next couple of days. I see Dr. Hall next week and I’ll be armed with bone scan results, x-rays and possibly a really broken foot, depending on how tonight’s soccer and tomorrow’s duathlon go! :o)

the new kicks, a new kick and a broken kick

here’s a pic of my new kicks:

aren’t they snazzy? :o)

here’s my new kick > the green monster

found this over at http://www.ohsheglows.com/ and decided to give it a whirl.

this is what mine looked like:

and an update on the broken kick-

my foot is still sore. not nearly as sore as last week but then again I have done anything to make it worse. I golfed 18 holes on it and it was ok, a bit tender but ok. I played baseball on it and it was a bit sore running around the bases and trotting back and forth from the outfield.
on the diagnosis front, the x-rays were clear. bone scan isn’t until 5 July. the doctor’s office tried to get me in earlier but I’m considered non-urgent so due to the isotope shortage, no bone scan for me until July. appointment with the sport medicine specialist is scheduled for 19 June. so screw it. I’m running/riding the duathlon on Saturday and I’m running tonight. I’m so angry about it I want to swear but my swear jar tally is somewhere near $5.

foot – not working as expected

the last 3(ish) weeks I’ve been experiencing off and on foot pain. I initially wrote it off as muscle pain and overuse but it’s been getting steadily worse. after yesterday’s lunch run it was pretty miserable so off to the doctor’s this morning. Dr Fancy Hair (my GP) is thinking possible stress fracture in my 5th tarsal. so immediately after my appointment I whipped over to the lab and got a set of x-rays done. should hear back today/tomorrow if there is a large break. I’m also scheduled for a bone scan 6 july to rule out a smaller/hard to see stress fracture. Fancy Hair says dial down the high impact activities but don’t stop them. (hill run tonight and soccer tomorrow whoot!)

lunch run yesterday:
time: 18:59
distance: 2.64M (4.22km)
calories: ~180
notes: this was awesome to run fairly hard for 20mins and get my heart rate up over lunch. quick shower and still back to work in an hour. good deal. ran a loop from my gym. it was pretty flat with a small rolling hill section in the first quarter. foot felt ok until about 12-15mins in and then it was protesting loudly. pushing in the clutch on my car to drive back to work almost induced a gag. definitely induced a yelp. inaugrual run in the new kicks.

today I’ve got my foot crammed into my fancy new puma’s and I’m looking forward to hills tonight with JB and KB!
