so sick and no runs. i’m miserable.

Today my fever broke (yipee!) and I haven’t taken any cold/flu meds in 5+ hours. I will be taking some tonight to get a good night’s sleep in but overall I’m feeling about 65%. Better than Tuesday night’s 13%. So, considering my 52% improvement, I thought maybe I would be ok for a run. Rather than put myself through a relapse, I decided to do some research. I read some
Where Does It Hurt? care of Runner’s World because I remembered something about a neck up rule. Turns out that I should wait one more day before running again. Even then I think it’s in my best interests to run inside. Damn it. I hate having to be patient. I really need to be running!

The knee continues to cause issues. I think it’s IT band inflammation but LM among others have said I should suck it up and get the doctor to send me to physio to be on the safe side. This is really making me want a trainer for my bike so that I can at least get some cardio in and not cause further damage to the knee. I’m looking at the CycleOps Mag+ Trainer as an option. **cough cough Christmas idea cough**

Speaking of Christmas ideas… http://www.moeben.com/ I really like the giraffe ones…

:o)

Off to bed.

hangin’ out tonight

Hanging out in front of the boob tube tonight. We had the Amazing Race: Elora today for a team building event today and covered enough ground/climbed enough stairs/scrambled up enough rocks to decide that I don’t need my run tonight. I was planning to get out the door since my shoes look a bit sad and lonely but I’m tired. Today’s calories are currently at 1500+, about 30 too many but given the exercise I’ve had, I think I’ll call it even.

For the first time in 2 weeks, I missed sending out the WLC email. Missed the updates for day 15. But, I did get a chance to share some accomplishments with K(used to be M)P in the car today and the reaction reminded me of how much I’ve done and makes me want to keep pushing myself. After running around all day today though, I realized that it’d be a great idea to incorporate more activity into my day. KP was on board with lunch time walks, saying that it was a great idea and would be easier to get out the door if others were going too. I was reminded today (thanks calendar, that’s awesome.) that I’ve got less than 1 month to go before my goal day. The weight loss has tapered off a bit b/c I’ve been getting sloppy with my calories and not getting my cardio in. Need to keep pushing myself and stay focused. But man! I’m going to look smoking hot on the 29th!! :o)

I’m getting back to my lit roots lately and I’m reading Northanger Abbey before bed and any spare minutes I can. It’s awesome to read for pleasure! That novelty hasn’t worn off yet. Anyone got a good read I should check out?

Work out updates:
29 Oct – JM d9
30 Oct – rest day that turned into Amazing Race Elora (possibly about 5K of walking)

making the cut and race planning

So I’ve been doing the Jillian Michael’s Making the Cut workouts and am now at day 8. My muscles are sore but I’m noticing significant differences in my energy levels, moods, and clothing. It’s certainly hard work but the pay offs are keeping me motivated. The girls in the Wellbeing Logbook Challenge are helping too!

Here’s the running/gym visits updates:
22 Oct – JM day 4 work out (50 mins at gym)
23 Oct – 4.61 m run around Eastbridge in 44 mins (400+ cal burned)
24 Oct – JM day 5 work out (50 mins at gym); body felt like a noodle all weekend b/c of it!
25 Oct – rest day and ate too much
26 Oct – 40 mins of ice hockey in the am, 5m run in the afternoon (607 cal)
27 Oct – ate too much and played 50 mins soccer
28 Oct – JM day 8 work out (40 mins at gym), a quick 3 miler planned for tonight before volleyball

I’m tired, as in not getting enough sleep. Last night it was 11:30 before I was in bed and anywhere near sleep and then up for the day around 6:15am. I can’t function on 7 hours. I’m getting better at it though but it makes for a grumpy LH in the mornings!

How do I get into bed earlier without feeling guilty??

holy smokes! have i got updates!

Running and workout updates…
Tues 21 Oct – strength training. Jillian Michael’s day 2 work out. Back and core protesting all day! No cardio. Am dead tired today. Hit a wall a 4:30pm though. Eating wasn’t too bad today.

Mon 20 Oct – strength training. Did Jillian Michael’s day 1 work out again. Was easier the second time. Played soccer at Bechtel Park in a 50min game. Felt pretty strong, legs only mildly complaining at start of game then I was warmed up.

Sun 19 Oct – Oktoberfest Run 5KM – ran 24:52 and PLACED 4/49 IN MY AGE GROUP!!! I felt great!! ME placed 9th in his age group too! :o) Go us!! Only downside: L knee sore again, like it was spasming after the race.

Fri 17 Oct – strength training day. Did Jillian Michael’s day 1 workout. Was an kick in the tush!

Thurs 16 Oct – Eastbridge, short. Ran 3.2m in 28:13 (8:49/mi); 377 cal. Prep for Oktoberfest run. Ate an apple in late afternoon and was full of stitches on this run just to the right of my sternum. Solo. Was starving at the end.

Wed 15 Oct – stood outside in little green heels for 3 hours. Lazy walk about 1km.

Tues 14 Oct – Eastbridge neighbourhood. Ran 3.99m in 40:29 (10:09/m); 478 cal. Left knee tweaked/spasmed in driveway at end of run. Ran in my new Nikes. My mood was a -1 before the run and was a +3 afterwards. Got dark really quickly… days are going too fast.

Mon 13 Oct – biked around Kwianis Park neighbourhood and saw B&S R’s place. Biked 11.05m, 1:05:03. Leisurely pace (10.2m/h). Burned 855cal! ME led me all around and we had a great time. So great to spend quality time w/ him like that.

Ongoing: we, a group from work, are doing the Wellbeing Logbook Challenge. We are in day 6. I enjoy reading the other girls’ comments from the day previous to see their triumphs and interesting takes on challenges they face. I am feeling pretty good about how accountable I’ve been, keeping track of my caloric intake, exercise, water, mood and sometimes sleep. There as a been a dramatic improvement in my overall energy, spirit, and doubleplus bonus: the scale! I said it in the motivation email today and I say it again: thank you ladies!

Right now I’m sitting on the couch with a sleeping ME and Allie Cat watching The Biggest Loser Families. Not going to be a liar… there’s been a few tears. Such a good episode!
Domestic Goddess accomplishments for the night – made soup from our turkey stock and made oatmeal and raisin squares. Dead tired but feeling pretty good about myself.

Dearest MB – I will write tomorrow, I haven’t forgotten about you. Can’t wait to hear about Victoria.
CT – Girl it was great to hear from you! You sound like you have some serious s**t togetherness and congratulations on the 5KM accomplishment. There’s nothing like crossing the finish line eh?!

off to ice this knee and relax.

Monday night run and weekend update

Monday night run with Runner’s Choice fun run group – loop up to top of Albert and back.

Time: 29:32
Distance: 3.35m
Pace 8:50/m

Fast run. Was running on my own as the other LH wasn’t there so was trying to keep up with a pair of women that were talking about their upcoming marathon. Fronts of shins (the muscles) hurt, were spasming but I think it was because I wore heavy brown shoes all day.

Weekend update

Went up north for GGH’s 90th birthday. Had a blast and it was nice to get off the grid a bit (ie not have to monitor my BB all weekend). Will post some pics soon.

but I wanna do more!

Route: Grand River trail out and back
Time: 31:34m
Distance: 3.09m
Pace: 10:13/m
Calories: 370
Weather: 22C, sunny, cool, beautiful fall day
Wildlife: wild golfers in carts!
Notes: ME and I ran tonight we both started out nice and slow trying to ease into it. ME said his one leg was tight and sore. My legs were aching and a bit sore, nothing that hints at an injury just tight and needed to warm up. We went out nice and slow, first mile was 10:41, second was 10:44, third was 9:26. I were both pushing each other in the final mile zooming to get home. Overall it was a good run – it’s nice listening to my body and finding out that it’s telling me that it wants to do more but my brain is smart enough to say hang on champ, let’s take it easy! You’re just getting back into all of this!

I’m still reading Marathons For Mortals. I haven’t picked a training plan yet but I’m sticking with the plan to get out and run Mon/Tues/Thurs/Sat/Sun with soccer maybe on Wed/Fri. Easy days are Mon/Sat for sure. Must write this down some where or put it in my BlackBerry.
